Councilmembers vow to do more after immigration platform vote
After immigration platform vote, Sacramento councilmembers vow to do more
“People are living in fear,” Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes, D-3, said on Tuesday. “And we as elected officials need to make sure that we’re doing everything in our power to make sure that, to say, ‘Hey, we stand with you and we’re going to fight this together.’”
The resolution prevents federal agents from using city data to trace residents’ immigration statuses. It also declares Sacramento’s opposition to racial profiling, warrantless stops and the impersonation of local police by federal agents.
“It allows every single department in the city of Sacramento to update their policies, procedures and protocols so that if and when the federal government comes to Sacramento … they know how to respond,” Talamantes said. “They know who to call. They know what steps to take.”
