Sacramento city leaders are advancing a proposal to regulate electric bikes, scooters, and motorcycles, following a unanimous vote by a city committee on Tuesday.

The proposal, sponsored by Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes, aims to address safety concerns and embed state e-bike laws into a framework tailored to Sacramento.

Talamantes cited a fourfold increase in e-bike and e-scooter-related visits to the UC Davis Medical Center from 2021 to 2025 as a key reason for the initiative.

"I hear loud and clear from my constituents and my community that they want the city of Sacramento to do something about this problem," Talamantes said. "Ultimately, education is the number one priority, but also there needs to be consequences to your actions."
